On the first Sunday in Lent in Catholic Churches worldwide, the Rite of Election is celebrated. Bishop Toups celebrated the Rite of Election at the noon Mass at St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica. However, due to the pandemic and not being able to have large celebrations, the catechumens and candidates did not all gather at the Cathedral Basilica.
“Lent is a season to recalibrate,” Bishop David L. Toups said in his homily during the Ash Wednesday Mass at St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica Feb. 17. This recalibration is for how people should live during the entire year, not just during Lent.
It was a joyous Valentine’s Day for the faith community in Cleveland as its new church building was blessed and the first Mass was celebrated. “We rejoice and thank God!” Bishop David L. Toups said in his homily.
