By Cindy Wooden, Catholic News Service VATICAN CITY (CNS) — Pope Francis has accepted the resignation from the College of Cardinals of Cardinal Theodore E. McCarrick, retired archbishop of Washington, and has ordered him to maintain “a life of prayer and penance” until a canonical trial examines accusations that he sexually abused minors.
Readers of The Orange Leader newspaper have voted St. Mary Catholic School in Orange as the Best Elementary School in the newspaper’s “Best in Orange” compilation. This was the second year in a row the school received Best Elementary School recognition.
The second and final of week of the Diocese of Beaumont’s Summer Camp has come to a close sending campers back to their parishes and communities enriched from their encounters with their faith. “We had many opportunities to talk about the importance of understanding our Catholic faith and how it is incorporated into every part of our daily lives,” said Melanie Ehrlich, director of the Office of Youth Ministry.

Students entering grades four through six continue having fun this week while also living out their faith as disciples of Jesus Christ during the Diocese of Beaumont’s Summer Camp.
Summer Camp is here, and we are excited! This was the thought shared by camp staff and campers at the Diocesan Summer Camp, which began late Sunday afternoon, July 15, at Camp Niwana. The theme “Anchored in Christ,” which was selected by the Office of Youth Ministry for the 2017-2018 year, continues at camp.
“Kind of you to share in our distress” was the theme at the Diocese of Beaumont’s Stewardship Awards held at the MCM Elegante in Beaumont on July 15. One hundred and twenty-five people were nominated for having performed extraordinary acts of stewardship between 2016 to June 2018.
