Parish chairs for the Bishop’s Faith Appeal gathered at Holy Family Retreat Center Tuesday, June 27, for the 2017 Mid-Year Workshop to discuss their strengths and challenges so far for the current year.
A check presentation ceremony to award the proceeds from the 2017 St. Joseph’s Day event was held at St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica Chapel on June 20. The proceeds help provide food and assistance to the poor and less fortunate in the local community, as well as help with ministries in the parish.
Keynote speaker Noelle Garcia prepared the youth for Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament at the Diocese of Beaumont Youth Convention. More than 900 Southeast Texans participated in the prayer and worship session.
Awards were presented at the annual St. Timothy Awards Banquet at the Diocesan Youth Convention. One of the awards was the For God and Youth, presented to Will Robbins, Hannah Lunceford and Sherry Broussard.
Youth from across the Diocese of Beaumont participated in service projects at the Diocesan Youth Convention. The projects consisted of writing letters to inmates and thank you letters to clergy, making blankets for Birthright, Inc. in Orange and Beaumont, making rosaries to give away at the Encounter Catholic booth and creating goodie bags for needy, including toothpaste, toothbrush, etc.
The annual talent show at the Youth Convention rocked the Downtown Houston hotel with many musical numbers including dancing, singing, playing instruments, sign language performances and even a skit or two.
Southeast Texas youth and adults enjoy the second day of the Diocesan Youth Convention with keynote speaker Brian Greenfield. The keynote was followed by a panel to answer questions about vocations and then moved into two sessions of workshops.

This year’s theme is “Rise Up: Dare to be a Disciple” from Matthew 28:16-20: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations… and behold, I am with you, to the end of the age.” The first night kicked off with Bob Lesnefsky, or better known as “Righteous B,” pumping up the teens with a concert and his keynote speaking of his life’s ministry working with inner-city kids.
Bishop Curtis Guillory, SVD, regretfully announced that the mission church of St. Francis of Assisi in Buna is closing. Bishop Guillory’s announcement came during a meeting on June 9 with parishioners.
