By Catholic News Service WASHINGTON (CNS) — Pope Francis held a “virtual town hall” with Catholics in Chicago, Los Angeles and McAllen, Texas, in advance of his Sept. 22-27 visit to the United States.
A Cursillo rosary for Louisiana State Police Senior Trooper Steven Vincent will be prayed Aug. 28 at 6 p.m. in the Rosa Hart Theater of the Lake Charles Civic Center, 900 Lakeshore Drive. Trooper Vincent attended Our Lady of Good Council Church in Lake Charles and was part of Cursillo #439.
WASHINGTON—Creating sufficient, decent work that honors the dignity of families is a necessary component of the challenge facing all Catholics, and it is the Catholic way, said Archbishop Thomas G. Wenski of Miami, chairman of the U.S. bishops’ Committee on Domestic Justice and Human Development.
The Faithful of Southeast Texas gathered at the historical St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica for the Bishop’s Faith Appeal Intentions Mass. Representatives from each parish in the Diocese of Beaumont processed with a basket full of intention cards, stating their fellow parishioners prayer intentions, leaving them before the altar.
Thanks to a generous donation to Msgr. Kelly Catholic High School, Beaumont, the girls’ softball team now has a beautiful new training facility. The facility was dedicated to the Dominican Sisters of Houston and was blessed Aug. 19 by Bishop Curtis Guillory, SVD, with players, staff, family and friends in attendance.
Learning to put people first when ministering to a person with a disability could make a world of difference. “When you put people first instead of putting their disability first it’s less judgmental,” keynote speaker Charleen Katra, associate director, Office of Evangelization and Catechesis, Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, said.
