By Cindy Wooden Catholic News Service VATICAN CITY (CNS) — Just like a family, the Catholic Church should challenge members to grow and behave better, but also like a family, it should not exclude those who still have some growing to do, said Bishop George V. Murry of Youngstown, Ohio.
More than 100 couples were honored at the annual Mass celebrating marriage at St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica, Beaumont. Bishop Curtis Guillory, SVD, celebrated Mass and presented the couples with certificates.
All animals big and small are welcome for the annual blessing of furry and not so furry friends in celebration of the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi. Because of St. Francis’ love of nature and especially animals, Catholic churches hold pet blessings around his feast day on Oct. 4.
