The first day of spring brought sunshine and cool weather on Palm Sunday. Sacred Heart Church in Port Arthur began Mass with a blessing of the palms and a procession through the neighborhood.
Missionary of St. Paul Father Sampson Etim, pastor of Sacred Heart-St. Mary Church, described in his homily that Palm Sunday initiates the Holy Week which leads to the celebration of the Risen Lord on Easter.
“It is not called ‘Holy Week’ because Jesus died,” said Father Etim. “It is called ‘Holy Week’ because Jesus resurrected.”
The Mass was followed by an Easter social where Frito pie was served and children were given candy-filled Easter eggs.
