Catholic Charities to help those affected by flood

The Disaster Response Program at Catholic Charities of Southeast Texas is assessing needs in response to the recent flooding that took place throughout Southeast Texas.

Catholic Charities will be visiting the affected areas until Monday, March 28 (except for Easter Sunday) to assess the needs of the families. At the following locations, families can give their information and get registered for assistance through the organization.

Tuesday – Friday March 22 – 25: 2 – 8 p.m. 

Saturday March 26: 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Monday March 28: 2 – 8 p.m.

“We will help as many people as we can get to as long as there are resources for us to use,” said Catholic Charities president Carol Fernandez. “We’ll provide assistance with rental payments and money for food or a new refrigerator, and other basic needs.”

Fernandez said Catholic Charities helps to provide long-term assistance as long as there is a need for it.

“With a disaster, everybody has a role that they play,” she said. “Catholic Charities is generally the early responders. We’re set up to help provide basic needs and long-term support. We will work with these people to try to get them back into their homes.”
