Catholic Charities of Southeast Texas’ 25th annual Breakfast with the Bishop packed the Family Life Center at St. Jude Thaddeus, Beaumont, June 25.
Bishop Curtis Guillory, S.V.D., thanked all who attended the breakfast.
“It is so great that we have so many of you who came out today to support the programs at Catholic Charities which does such great work in our community,” he said.
Many spent the morning visiting, participating in the silent auction and filling their plates with Cajun and traditional breakfast foods.
The guest speaker was a former client Zach Shearer who as a child went with his family to Elijah’s Place, the Catholic Charities’ children grief counseling service.
“I can honestly say, I wouldn’t be here today if it were not for Elijah’s Place,” he said. “It was helpful to be around other children who were grieving. We may not have been going through the same things but we could all identify with each other’s emotions.”
A special tribute took place to honor former Catholic Charities volunteer Fran Landry, who died in January. Her husband, Gene, and other family members were in attendance.
