The Diocese of Beaumont offers a defined contribution plan for retirement purposes for lay employees and priests incardinated in the Diocese of Beaumont and a defined benefit plan for eligible diocesan priests. An employee becomes eligible to participate in the plan immediately upon hire, if he or she is a lay employee who works at least 30 hours or more per week or is a priest incardinated in the Diocese of Beaumont.
Defined Contribution Plan: Eligible employees may choose to defer from 0 to 100% of his/her salary up to the Internal Revenue Service annual limit. Diocesan priests are also eligible to participate in the defined contribution plan, but employer contributions will not apply.
Lay employees are automatically enrolled at a 3% contribution rate, with an automatic increase occurring July 1st of each new fiscal year until reaching 6%. The employee’s taxable income is reduced by the amount contributed by the employee through salary deferral.
Employees who are or will attain the age of 50 years during the course of the year are eligible for an additional “catch-up” contribution to the Plan as prescribed by the Internal Revenue Service. Participants are always 100% vested in their own contributions to the plan; there is a 6-year graded vesting schedule applied to employer contributions. The plan is managed by Milliman.
Defined Benefit Plan for Diocesan Priests: Contributions to the Defined Benefit Plan are made exclusively by the employer. A priest incardinated in the Diocese of Beaumont is fully vested after 10 years of service.
