Bishop Guillory dedicates bench representing Unsung Stewards from Harvey

“Some Other Place feeds the hungry and feeds the homeless. And so I think it’s beautiful to have this connection,” Bishop Curtis Guillory, SVD, said at a ceremony Sept. 19 to bless and dedicate a bench at Some Other Place that honors thousands of individuals who helped others during and after Tropical Storm Harvey.

Since so many became temporarily homeless during Harvey, the bench was placed outside Some Other Place where so many “permanently” homeless come to be fed and ministered to each day.

“It means a lot knowing that the Diocese of Beaumont appreciates our work,” said Paula O’Neal, executive director of Some Other Place.

Bishop Guillory, the Diocese of Beaumont and the Diocesan Stewardship Council gave the bench to Some Other Place.

The bench—the award to the Unsung Stewards who were recipients of the 2017-18 Diocesan Stewardship Council Award—will serve as a permanent reminder of these people who could not be recognized by name at the awards ceremony in July who cared about the homeless, fed the hungry and offered dignity during a challenging time.
