Local World Youth Day preparations coming together

The tents came early and the tables are going up as diocesan staff and seminarians prepare for Local World Youth Day on Aug. 4 at the Diocese of Beaumont Pastoral Center, 710 Archie St. in Beaumont.

“Let’s figure out where we’re going to put the vendors’ tables,” said Melanie Ehrlich, Director of the Office of Youth Ministry, as she guided staff helping plan the event.

Rain is in the forecast.

So Ailene Luistro, Coordinator of Youth Ministry, said for participants to bring rain ponchos, rain boots and umbrellas just in case.

The day begins with a pilgrimage walk starting at the former First Baptist Church location at 900 Calder and ends at St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica School. The outdoor celebration will be filled with nationally-known guest speakers, musicians and other entertainment including the house band Jesus Team A, Brian Butler, Noelle Garcia, Jamie Thietten, and Father Anthony Bozeman, SSJ.
