Service projects pave way to community outreach

Providing exposure to different parts of the community was the goal of the service projects portion of the 2018 Diocese of Beaumont Youth Convention in Houston.

Young people spent time working on several projects, including cards for vocations, rosaries for responders, letters to offenders, letters to military personnel, blankets for Birthright, stained-glass crosses for nursing home residents and blessing bags for the homeless ministry.

St. Therese the Flower of Jesus parishioner Michael Trevino worked on letters to offenders and the military. He said he wanted offenders to know that they are not alone as he addressed a letter as “Dear Brother in Christ.”

He also penned a letter as “Dear Hero” to a military service member to honor the courage of the men and women who serve in the military

Ailene Luistro, with the Office of Youth Ministry at the Diocese of Beaumont, led the service project session.

“In simple projects we are the hands and feet of Christ. And we’re making a big difference,” Luistro said.
