St. Katharine Drexel Feast Day celebrated at Blessed Sacrament

Bishop Curtis Guillory, SVD, celebrated Mass at Blessed Sacrament Church in Beaumont March 1 recognizing the feast day of St. Katharine Drexel and her commitment to helping Native Americans and African Americans. Her work, as a sister and founder of the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, included financing the printing of 500 copies of “A Navaho-English Catechism of Christian Doctrine for the Use of Navaho Children.” She also founded Xavier University in New Orleans, La., the first Catholic university in the United States for African Americans.
