Tree of Angels honors victims

The Crime Victims Tree of Angels is a positive way for all crime victims to bring in the holiday season,” said Chris Castillo, Jefferson Country Coalition for Victims of Violent Crime member and volunteer coordinator for the diocesan office of Criminal Justice.
The Crime Victims Tree of Angels trimming and lighting will be held at the Jefferson County Courthouse at 1149 Pearl St. in Beaumont at 6 p.m. on Dec. 6.
The lighting honors those who have lost loved ones to crime and those who have been changed by a crime.
Each family or victim makes an ornament for the tree with the name of the victim on the ornament. They place their ornaments, mostly angels, on the tree.
“It’s a great time for everybody to come together as a family for a unified goal,” Castillo said, “to put a little Christmas cheer in their lives.
“Many of us suffer from a feeling of loss during the holiday season, so this is a way to turn that into a positive by bringing people of like minds together to share in a moment of joy,” said Castillo whose mother was a murder victim.
Music and refreshments will be provided and the public is invited to attend.
