Continuing effects from last week’s rains

Though the rains ended days ago, the effects are continuing from last week’s torrential rains.

The photos below show the St. Joseph Abbey campus in Covington, La. The seminary school experienced flooding last week and classes were cancelled until Monday, March 21. The seminarians, including four from the Diocese of Beaumont, evacuated because of the high water.

Because the continuing rise of the water in the rivers, streams and bayous in Southeast Texas, several roads and highways have been closed. Check for road closures on Interstate 10, especially at the Texas-Louisiana border, before traveling.

If you are traveling and you see water on the roads, please turn around and do not drive through it. If the roads are barricaded, do not drive around the barricade. Remember “Turn around, don’t drown.”
