Virgin Mary’s “Baby Shower”

The young leaders of “Domestic Church” at Our Lady of the Light Parish in Anahuac organized a spiritual advent retreat with a “Baby Shower” theme for children.

The retreat was an effort to teach young leaders how to evangelize by giving them the opportunity to evangelize about other children their age. The “Baby Shower” theme was worked into the retreat was by having the children make a “spiritual” gift to the Virgen Mary. The gift could be anything from promising to pray to make an effort to be more in touch with their parents. The baby shower theme also helped the children to see the human side of Jesus, and see that He grew up just like they did.

Sister Joselina Cedeño and Sister Carmen Teresita Olivas, of Missionary Carmelites of St. Therese, along with the parents of the young leaders helped facilitate the event. Father Stephen McCrate, pastor, was present throughout the retreat. He gave the opening prayer, helped the young leaders with their biblical reflections, handed out completion certificates for retreatants and young leaders, and gave the closing prayer.
