Early in Washington

Jim and Jeanne Fennell of Beaumont arrived at the lawn of the Capitol early this morning. Jim Fennell also attended the canonization Mass Wednesday of now St. Junipero Serra. Jim Fennell said the Pope’s charism could be felt in the crowd. As a Serran he said the highlight of the Mass was the canonization. As he was on the phone this morning he was saying the mood at the Capitol was electrifying with thousands of people in attendance. Then cheers could be heard in the background. “He’s arriving!” Fennell said. “People are signing themselves with the sign of the cross.” He said they would be staying until after the address to Congress when the Holy Father is expected to step out and address those gathered on the lawn.
