Another Youth Convention has ended, and once again I am filled with joy seeing our youth and how they share their faith, supported one another and reached out to others. I realized the creativity at the talent show, acknowledged their service to community at the banquet and saw their sharing of love of Christ at the prayer services and Masses.
Our collection during Mass today will provide a mor than $1,500 donation to Birthright. Before we left today the 2008-09 board passed the flame to the 2009-10 board. We gathered our graduates for a blessing as they progressed to life after high school. We watched a slide show that included a variety of photos from youth groups throughout the past year and from convention. And before the youth left, they were challenged to not leave what they had at convention at the hotel but to take what they learned and experienced going forth to live their faith.

The 43rd annual Youth Convention wrapped up June 27 with a final Mass followed by a closing session that transferred duties from the 2008-09 diocesan youth board to the 2009-10 youth board. It was a happy and heartfelt day as new high school youth finalized their first convention and leaving seniors celebrated their last.

It’s Saturday at Youth Convention – our final day together for this year. Our closing Mass was awesome. With more than 800 youth and adults gathered to celebrate the Eucharistic feast, it just brings joy to my heart. These are our kids there worshipping together. In the homily Father Rodel Faller challenged the youth to give back through service. He also encouraged them to pray for vocations because even though he is the youngest priest right now, he didn’t want to be the youngest priest in 50 years. After Mass we installed the new Youth Board with Derek David as president.

800 youth singing "Yes Lord, Yes Lord., Yes Yes Lord out loud ... it's Friday morning at Youth Convention.
Keynoter ValLimar Jansen led the youth in an awesome session encouraging them to live their faith out loud. Now on to our last session of workshops.
After that is the election session where the youth will select 4 of the 7 board positions. I'm praying for the nervous candidates & the youth groups who will be voting.

It's after talent show and I'm watchin kids ice skate. It's always good to see at the talent show how creative and talented our kids are.
Our kids are supportive of each other when they are on stage. It's awesome seeing how much fun they have in a positive Christian way.

What an afternoon! It was awesome. The kids said great things abot the workshop speakers. And then those running for youth board had their session where they answered questions. I was really kind of blown away with their answers. The questions were given to them spur of the moment and their answers were open and honest and showed insight into their own feelings. Now I'm looking forward to the creative group and individual acts at the talent show. After the kids get to go ice skating and eating and have time to socialize.

Convention today is going great. Father Henry Davis portrayed a wonderful Jesus at opening prayer. Our keynoters Doug Tooke and David Casey were not only entertaining but inspiring as well.

He Lives in Me – God lives in each one of us. It was said at the opening that just took place, and the 800 plus youth and adults at convention will be reminded of that time and again during these days together. Even though I’ve done convention for many years, every year when we open I just praise God that we have so many teens here celebrating the faith together. God is good.

It’s exciting to see all the groups show up today for Youth Convention. They are so positive and upbeat and looking forward to the games and activities tonight. A highlight of this evening will be the special time of prayer led by one of our guest speakers Doug Tooke. He can really pull all the youth together for a special time of prayer – especially prayer for a good conference (and for a good night’s sleep tonight!)
