The Office of Catholic Schools for the Diocese of Beaumont held its annual Teacher of the Year awards dinner May 14 at St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica Center, Beaumont. Elementary, middle school and high school teachers were recognized as well as those retiring this year. Volunteers from each of the five schools in the diocese were also awarded with the St. Thomas Aquinas award for the hard work they do for the school.
At Msgr. Kelly Catholic High School, Beaumont, Dominican Sister Emily Bordages was named teacher of the year. Bob and Karen Wortham were honored for their stewardship. At Our Mother of Mercy Catholic School, Beaumont, Tia Robinson was named teacher of the year and Barbara Joseph was awarded for her stewardship.
At St. Anne Catholic School, Beaumont, Kara Thompkins and Kuky Wardwell were named teacher of the year and Bill and Gay Scott were awarded for their stewardship. At St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica School, Beaumont, Susan Lavergne and Felicia Andrews were awarded teacher of the year and Lee Polk was awarded for her stewardship.
At St. Catherine of Siena, Port Arthur, Lisa Crenshaw and Barbara Umphrey were awarded teacher of the year and Mary Anne Sigur and Tania Drago were awarded for their stewardship. At St. Mary Catholic School, Orange, JoAnn Sparicino and Angela Smith were awarded with teacher of the year and Cherry Vigil was awarded for her stewardship.
Retirees honored were Terri Clark, Kelly High; Helen Morris and Carla Schaefer, St. Anne; and Helen Cammareri, St. Catherine.
Superintendent Nancy Collins praised each of the schools for the hard work they do.
“I just want to take this opportunity to say how proud I am of all of our schools. We have such committed teachers and staff and I feel so lucky to be a part of this group,” Collins said.
