Tired of the same old chocolate bunnies, jelly beans and marshmallow eggs? Want something that will last from year to year? Want to build a collection for that special someone in your life?
Follow the bunny trail to the Calico Cottage on the corner of Eagle Drive and Pine Street to see the delightful and beautiful sugar eggs produced by a ministryat Our Lady of the Pines Church, 1601Pine St., Woodville. Live in Jefferson County? These famous sugar delights will be sold in Beaumont following Masses at St. Anne Church, 2715 Calder Ave., March 1-2 and at St. Jude Thaddeus Church, 6825 Gladys Ave., March 8-9. The art of sugar molding is still alive and well thanks to the women of the Our Lady of the Pines Altar Society. These28 Christian ladies work long, hard hours hand molding almost 1,500 pounds of sugar and decorating over 3,000 sugar eggs and figurines each year to brighten Easter baskets all over Texas.
The ladies have been decorating eggsfor more than 30 years. The project beganas a fundraising idea in 1974 and has become a tradition. Many new styles have graced the shelves, causing people to collect them over the years.
The Calico Cottage is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sundays following the 9:30 a.m. Mass.Eggs range in price from $2 to $25. For more information,
