Summer is fast approaching and that means that registration for the coming school year is already underway. The Catholic schools in the Diocese of Beaumont have already begun registration for fall.

With so many options for education these days one has to wonder what sets Catholic schools apart from the rest of the pack.

“The thing that makes Catholic schools unique is the teaching of religion that’s founded on Jesus Christ, our Redeemer. These are schools that offer daily prayer, weekly Masses and the truth of the Catholic faith that you can’t find in other schools,” Nancy Collins, superintendent of schools, said.

She stressed the importance of a well rounded education.

“We are forming good citizens of the world. We’re forming well rounded students who excel in different areas of education and spiritual growth. That’s what Catholic education is all about,” Collins said.

Collins also spoke about the different ways that Catholic schools are able to make these students more well rounded.

“A few things that set us apart from public schools is our disciplined and safe environment. We strive for that feeling in our schools. Our teachers go the extra mile everyday with our kids.”

“We also get parents involved as much as possible with their children and with school activities so they can feel like they are a part of the community,” Collins said

A feeling of community is huge part of the success of Catholic schools.

“It’s like a big family. A lot of parents tell us that they love the feeling of their kids going to schools that are connected. Being part of a strong Catholic community helps strengthen our schools,” Collins said

There are six Catholic schools in Southeast Texas – Msgr. Kelly Catholic High School, Our Mother of Mercy Catholic School, St. Anne Catholic School, St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica Catholic School, all in Beaumont; St. Catherine of Siena Catholic School, Port Arthur; and St. Mary Catholic School, Orange.

Registration is currently open and ongoing. Information about each school in addition to their own websites can be found on the diocesan website at www.dioceseofbmt.org/schools.
